I guess the answer is a resounding YES.
After the end of the first round, but before I took a look at the second round matchups, I found myself watching old footage from 1997. You might remember the game I’m talking about… McCarty mugs Lemieux and Roy comes flying in out of nowhere. If you need a reminder, try this.
By the time Detroit had solidified the game with 4 goals, ending Theordore’s night on the way to a Franzen trick, you could see that the Avs were just throwing bodies recklessly. With 5 minutes left in the 2nd, the Avs were in a tough position of having 3 guys in the box. By my count they took 17 minutes of penalties in the second period alone, which makes it pretty impossible to mount any sort of actual winning attempt. Watching McLeod take a stupid high stick then step out of the box and slam Zetterberg within 5 seconds for an interference was downright embarrassing.
Beyond watching the Avs get stomped, there were 2 nice things I noticed tonight. Playing all the classic Motown at The Joe is a nice touch. Second, I enjoy it when one of my guys is leading the league in playoff goals.
1,2,3… That’s how elementary it’s gonna be.
C’mon, let’s fall in love.
It’s easy (so easy) like taking candy from a baby!!!

boy do i miss hockey
My favorite part is when Shanahan and Roy meet in midair. Also, after Shanny and Foote get sent to the box, there’s a crowd already in there to welcome them.
Aye, the crowd in the box is awesome. I was watching game 2 of the 1982 Islanders-Canucks series and the same thing happened… 4 guys on each bench were just hanging out in the locker room for the second period.
